What a wonderful first few days... The children in Lantic class have all settled in really well and myself and Miss Sleep are so proud of them!
They have voted for their new School Councillor - they really thought about what it takes to be a great leader. They came up with having good manners, following the rules, being sensible and making good choices, someone who listens, is helpful and kind but most importantly that they are a good role model to others and a good person. I don't know how they decided!!
They have settled into their Maths lessons and new RWI/spelling groups.
We all think that this year is going to be the best! #Brunelisbest

For the first time this year we are able to share with you the curriculum map that we use to plan the wider curriculum content and learning for each half term. The wider curriculum is all subjects except English and maths. We use the National Curriculum for our teaching decisions and this is based on the knowledge that we want children to gain. We hope that you find these maps helpful and when we start a new one, we will send it to you. It would be great if you could talk to your child about what they are learning from time to time and now you know what they are learning. There is a question that guides the work and we make sure that they get a good share of all subjects over the year, so some boxes may have less in them for one term or half term than other subjects.
In maths we are also introducing some new language in maths called KIRFS. This stands for Key Instant Recall Facts. These are being introduced to the children and Mrs Davies, our maths lead will email a letter home by the end of the week to explain a little more and to suggest how you can help at home.
You will receive a class blog at least once per week now, so please help us by updating your permissions on Arbor so that we can blog pictures of your child and share their learning with you more.
If you have any questions about the curriculum map, please let me know and I will help as much as possible.

What a wonderful first day we have had at Brunel!
It was incredible to see the children so happy and skipping into school this morning. It was also lovely to meet many of our wonderful families on the drive. Thank you for coming by to say hello and wishing me well for my first day.
Just a reminder that tomorrow morning at 9am there will be a Meet the Headteacher Coffee morning in the Main Hall. Please come along and share your views about our wonderful school.
I look forward to seeing you there.
Have a lovely evening.

We've had a lovely first day back and it has been great to start to get to know the class. We have discussed our topic for the wider curriculum this term which will be The World Wars. We also looked at our story that will provide the focus for our writing over the next few weeks which will be Letters from the Lighthouse. The story is an historical fiction text about evacuation, the Blitz and includes elements of a mystery. It's a great book and we can't wait to get to understand it better!
PE days for year 6 this year will be Tuesday and Thursday. As with previous years, children can wear their PE kits to school on that day. A reminder that PE kits should be a plain white t-shirt, black or navy blue shorts and suitable footwear (trainers).
We hope you have all enjoyed the summer break and are looking forward to a great year with this cohort.

Welcome to Year 3/4.
We hope that you have had a good break over the summer and we welcome you warmly into this new school year.
The children have started back very well and are beginning to learn their new routines showing such maturity. We are looking forward to all that we will be doing over the next term.
Our big question for the term has a history focus: Would you like to live as a stone age hunter? More details will follow over the next couple of days.
Important Note:
Please can you bring any school reading books back to school in the next couple of days. We want to keep our stocks of these high quality books to be able to use with other children.
We will email in the next couple of days to clarify PE days and when to bring reading books into school for changing etc.
In the meantime, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me: cpittas@looeprimary.co.uk

What a lovely day! It was great to spend the day getting to know each other, getting new furniture and testing their times table knowledge after the 6 week holiday. Times tables does continue to be a big focus for us in Year 5 as we begin our long multiplication, division and lots of fractions learning - all of this is made easier with strong times tables knowledge. We will be beginning our topic based upon the two world wars next week and a letter will be coming out shortly about a planned trip so keep an eye on your emails please.
PE - please ensure that PE kit follows are guidance on the website. No football shirts please. Our PE days are Wednesday (indoor) and Friday (outdoor). As the weather becomes cooler the children can wear dark coloured jogging bottoms and a sweatshirt, or wear their school jumper for the Friday outdoor session.
Home learning - from next week your children will have their new Mathletics and Times Table Rockstars accounts up and running. Please ensure they are actively engaging. Mathletics is set each week based upon the topics covered that week in our maths lessons so is a great way to help us see the consolidation of their learning.
Walking home, or to the gate - please could you email/ come and see me to give permission for your child to walk independently.
Have a great week,
Mrs Davies and Miss Cook

I has been so lovely to see all of the little faces today! I really hope that you had a great summer and that the children are ready for a packed half term!
Just a few notifications to begin the school year. Firstly, could I politely ask that everyone return any reading books from last year. We are quite a number down unfortunately and need these to pass on to the children coming up. PE days for this class are Tuesday's and Thursday's so please ensure that your child arrives into school dressed in the appropriate kit.
Coming home this week will be their class dojo logins and a new reading book and record. Please can you ensure that their reading records are in school every day, as we will be reading regularly with the children and need to ensure that their reads are counted for the karate reading bands initiative.
Information of what is being covered this term (our topic) will be uploaded by the end of this week. Please take the time to read it so that you can talk to your child at home so that they can make positive connections between what we are learning in school and relating it to the outside world!
We have already enjoyed receiving the children today and am looking forward to a positive, fun academic year!
Any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to either talk to one of our team or alternatively, email me at rbrewer@looeprimary.co.uk.

Welcome to our Nursery blog ...
In our spacious, inviting nursery, we
work hard to offer a nurturing and supportive learning environment for the
children to thrive and grow. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage
Curriculum, emphasising the characteristics of effective learning.
This approach fosters a love of
learning and provides challenges linked closely to developmentally age-appropriate
experience. We strive to create an environment where the children feel
confident exploring and discovering new things. We have weekly forest school
activities and constant access to a large, safe outdoor space and an all-weather
area. Our excellent cook cooks all meals daily on-site.
As a Nursery, we understand that all
children are unique and understand the importance of following their individual
interests.
We are set just outside the beautiful
village of Blisland, 10 mins from Bodmin town centre.
As a smaller setting, we can only
offer ten places per year group, which ensures a very high level of interaction
with adults and quality education for your child while they are with us. We are
very family-oriented and have strong community connections.
We can offer places to children from
the age 2yrs and offer 3yrs funding and 30-hour funding; more information can
be found here: www.gov.uk/30-hours-free-childcare
Morning sessions are from 8.50 am - 12
cost £17.70
Lunch is available from 12-1 pm at £5.90
plus meal cost or a home-packed lunch.
The afternoon session would be from
12-3 pm at £ 17.70 plus meal cost or home-packed lunch.
All day session 8.50 am - 3 pm £35.40
plus the meal or home-packed lunch.
We are offering a fourth session free
if you pay for 3. It can be just mornings or a full day. Your equivalent 4th session would be free,
saving a max of £35.40
We are very flexible with hours and
days, so please feel free to ring for more information.
We can offer afterschool care from
3.15 - 4.15 pm for £5.80, including snacks.
We also run a parent and toddler group,
' Twiglets', on a Wednesday morning from 9 am to 11 am, where you can come
along to stay and play and meet new people, have a coffee and get a feel for
what we are all about; this runs weekly in term time and its free. Bump to
4yrs. Weekly information is also
available on our Twiglets Facebook page.
Following our nursery blog, which we
hope to publish weekly, will allow us to inform you through words and pictures
how we promote your child’s learning in the nursery. It is also a great way for
you to discuss with your child at home what they have been doing each week.
Kind regards,

Welcome back everyone! We hope you had a lovely break between the showers!
Our current children start back this week, with our new friends visiting next week before they start. If you see them waiting to come in, please say hello and introduce yourselves.
Our new focus story will be Owl Babies; we will be thinking about how we are feeling and what can make us feel anxious or afraid; we will be looking at the number 3 and sizes; we will also be talking about families at home.
Do you have this story at home? Can you find it in Saltash Library?
Let us know on Tapestry.
