Copper Valley Infant and Nursery Academy   March and April 2025

We started off in March enjoying Pancake Day and recreated the steps to make pancake with our friends. We were very impressed at how many of the children knew what ingredients they needed, and we enjoyed listening to their experiences from home. We practised using scissors cutting out toppings and sticking them to own our paper pancakes.
Using our British Values, our children voted for a new role play area and they chose a Pirate theme. This was very fitting as we celebrated St Piran’s Day and enjoyed lots of Cornish and pirate stories. We used ‘pieces of eight’ to help our counting skills and dressed up like pirates. We made scones for our snack and spoke about the Cornish flag and Coat of Arms which supported our counting to 5.
This busy month also saw World Book Day and the children embraced the day dressing up as their favourite characters. We challenged the children to ‘Guess the Book’  tuff trays which changed throughout the day. This enabled the children to make links to their favourite stories. They also got creative and designed their own bookmarks to take home.
With Mother’s Day approaching we made cards for our mummies using lots of fine motor skills such as glueing, sticking and drawing as well as using punches to cut paper shapes. We spoke about our mummies and how they are special and read books celebrating our mums and learnt the Makaton sign for ‘mum’.
Another story focus this month was ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ and we experienced real life cocoons, learning about the lifecycle of a butterfly.
We made our own boats from recyclable materials and tested them in the water tray with small world toys to see if they would float or sink.
For St Patrick’s Day we decorated Shamrocks and went on a hunt searching for green coloured objects. During this busy week we also took part in Red Nose Day and spoke about what makes us laugh as well as reading the book ‘Funny Faces’. We then made our own funny faces using playdough as well as loose parts and natural objects we found outside.

Whilst we weren’t here for most of April as we enjoyed the Easter holidays, we still managed to squeeze in lots of fun learning, This included making  Easter Egg decorations from clay and flowers as well as Easter wreaths. As we spoke about growth we enjoyed a Garden Centre role play area where we sold different coloured and size flowers. We returned after the Easter break on Earth Day and we used pipettes and cotton wool to make our own planet earth decorations. We spoke about how we can reuse and recycle our rubbish and explored print techniques re using plastic bottles to make blossom paintings.

Duloe C of E Primary Academy   Preschool - Fun in the Sun

With the unseasonably warm weather, Preschool had a nice cooling activity today. Items were frozen inside blocks of ice, the children then used hammers and picks to dig out the items inside. Once they had completed the activity the children requested sponges so they could wash the cars and tractors. A lovely day in the sun!
