Canute   Week ending Friday 2nd May

Posted 06/05/2025
by Sarah Andrew

What a great start we have had to our Summer term.  I'm not sure how we're already 2 weeks in!

The children have been so full of energy and ready to learn since the Easter break.  In 'Drawing Club' this week the children have been sharing the story of 'The Gigantic Turnip'.  They have been using their phonics to sound out and spell some great words and sentences.  Year 1 and 2 have been following, giving and writing instructions about how to grow a magical unicorn!!  Some great bossy verbs have been used and the children have been able to write clear and concise steps.

In maths our EYFS children have been investigating 3-D shapes, naming them, building with them and exploring their properties.  Year 1 have been focusing on multiplication and division and have been counting in 2's, 5's and 10's, finding equal groups and making arrays.  In Year 2 the children have become superstars at fractions.  They have been finding and making 1/2, 1/4 and 1/3 of shapes and quantities.

In our history this term we are thinking about our own history.  We have looked at photos of ourselves from the past, comparing them to the present day.  We made timelines and memory boxes and next week we will be thinking about how we celebrate birthdays now and how our parents and carers might have done in the past.

In PE we are working on team building this half term and will be completing different challenges working in pairs and small groups.  We will be developing our communication skills to work collaboratively.

Next week we will be saying a farewell to Miss Talbot who has successfully completed her apprenticeship with us.  We will be very sad to see her leave and wish her all the luck in the world for her next adventure.

As always, if there are any concerns or questions you may have then please ask any one of us.

Mrs Andrew, Mrs Fernie, Mrs Hicks, Miss Talbot

Our School Shines at the Fowey Festival 2025

We are incredibly proud to announce that our school had an outstanding showing at this year’s Fowey Festival of Arts and Literature! The event, which draws schools and creatives from across Cornwall and beyond, was once again a brilliant celebration of talent, imagination, and community spirit — and our children truly rose to the occasion. All the children submitted entries to both the art and poetry categories and several of them were shortlisted in their categories, and we are thrilled to share that Ava won the poetry category for KS2 and Ronnie was second in the KS1 poetry category! Both the children attended the ceremony at Fowey River Hall at the weekend where they received awards and shared their poems with the audience. In addition, many others have been awarded Highly Commended and Commended certificates which we shared in our special assembly on Monday morning.
Following the event, we have learnt that Polruan Primary Academy has been chosen as the beneficiary of The Mid Cornwall Arts Society grant which supports schools in securing an artist to work with them for the day. We will provide further details of which artist we have chosen and when they will come to school to work with the children. The winning poems and photos of the proud authors are below.

We have been made aware of sightings of adders on the National Trust field and urge you to take precautions when using the site. Wearing sturdy shoes/wellies, avoiding the long grass and sticking to the paths and if you come across an adder, stay back and allow it to move away in its own time will help keep you safer. School will only use the field when it is safe to do so.

I have been asked to promote the intention of the WI to hold a “Polruan has Talent” show at the Village Hall on Saturday 1st November. It is intended to be an evening of fun and entertainment where talent could be anything from actors, musicians, magicians. Before further details can be planned, the WI are keen to find out whether anyone would be willing to take part and urge potential talents to contact them.

Remember Monday is an INSET day.

Have a lovely long weekend,
Jane Wills

Happy Easter

What a whirlwind end of term, we have hardly had time to see the inside of our classroom this week. Despite the hustle and bustle, the children have now completed their independent narrative write in English, found time to design, plan and create their book sleeve in DT and debated whether they would like to live in the desert. Easter Service
The children have worked with Mrs Butlin to learn some catchy tunes to celebrate Easter and perform in front of parents at the service. Following, the lovely Open the Book supported the children with an Easter experience during which they re-told parts of the Easter story in addition to creating arts and crafts. We had a great morning in the chuch.

Exploring Rock Formations at Holywell Beach
Tregeagle class took a fascinating trip to the beach to study rock formations. Equipped with their classroom knowledge, they set out to examine different types of rocks and how they are formed over time. Spotting sedimentary layers and discovering the rich mineral deposits, the children engaged in scientific discussions about erosion, weathering, and the power of the sea. This trip provided a practical way to explore geology and sparked curiosity about the Earth's history. We will bring all the learning together in our end of unit piece of work next week. These will be uploaded to the children’s SeeSaw journal alongside the photos from the day, so make sure to log in and have a look at their amazing learning.

Have a lovely Easter break,
Mrs W and Mr T

Happy Easter

As spring term comes to an end, a little update and summary of some of the many activities the children have enjoyed completing a busy spring term and bring their classroom learning to life.

A Trip to the Farm – KS1
Our youngest learners had a delightful trip to Nancarrow Farm to learn about animals born in the spring. The children were thrilled to see newborn lambs, fluffy chicks, and tiny piglets up close. They learned about how animals are cared for, what they eat, and how farmers help them grow strong and healthy. This hands-on experience helped the children understand the cycle of life and the importance of caring for animals.

Exploring Rock Formations at Holywell Beach – KS2
Tregeagle class a fascinating trip to the beach to study rock formations.

Easter Egg Hunt Fun

For this year’s Easter egg hunt, Mrs Fernie organised an exciting afternoon for all the children on Tuesday. The children searched high and low for hidden clues, enjoying the thrill of the hunt and the knowledge that an Easter egg would be their reward at the successful end of the hunt. They worked with determination, collaboration and a healthy dose of detective skills to decipher the brilliant clues to lead them to their prize kindly funded by a church collection donated earlier in the month.

Mother’s Day Service
We had the privilege of hosting a special Mother’s Day service at Saint Saviour’s on Wednesday afternoon. The children have worked with Mrs Butlin to learn some catchy tunes to celebrate and serenade and the older children read out their poems. We also had the lovely Open the Book team coming in early afternoon to make posies with the children and these were presented t the event as well. It all made for a touching event filled with gratitude and reflection.

Bridge Schools Alternative Sports Day

Our Year 3 and Year 4 children are taking part in Bridge Schools’ Alternative Sports Day on Thursday 3rd April, where they will experience a day of Segway, fencing, archery and football golf. This is certain to be an active and exciting day, trying new sports and meeting lots of children from other schools. They were particularly successful with the archery where they managed to beat the other teams and were awarded the gold medal!

Easter Service and crafts
We complete this term with our Easter Service in the church at 9am Friday, followed by Easter arts and crafts organised by Open the Book and look forward to seeing you there. Following this, the children will return to school and be ready for collection at 1:30pm for a well-earned Easter break. Don’t forget to send money with your child for the chocolate tombola Friday – see email from Mrs Hughes for details.

Fowey Festival
We are delighted to tell you that two of our pupils did particularly well in the recent Du Maurier Fowey Literary Festival Competition for Young Writers and Artists.

Ava Y3 has been awarded 1st prize in the KS2 Poetry category and has an invitation to a presentation event on Sat 26th April at Fowey Hall Hotel.

Ronnie Y2 has been awarded 2nd prize in the KS1 Poetry category and has an invitation to a presentation event on Sat 26th April at Fowey Hall Hotel.

We are beyond proud of them and look forward to hearing all about the presentation evening and sharing their poetry with you all after Easter. There is also quite a few other children who will receive commended or highly commended certificates for their poetry or art. We will know more about these and have the certificates ready to present after the Easter holidays.

See you all back in school on Tuesday 22nd April at 8:40am.
On behalf of all the staff, Happy Easter

Cooking at school

Canute class have been cooking every week and Tregeagle class have had the offer of attending after school cooking club. To support the delivery of this, we applied for funding from Cornish Pasty Association and we are delighted to have received funding. Funds raised during Cornish Pasty Week 2025 will provide schools across Cornwall and Scilly with the resources they need to offer children regular cooking activities and buy equipment and ingredients to run cooking clubs or other fun food initiatives. This funding will allow us to continue offering cooking to all the children every week for the remainder of this school year.

This week we trialled a new way to award the Star of the week with the children voting for the person they felt had shown our values and kindness to others. It was lovely to read the positive comments the children listed as reasons for their choice; recognising the kind gestures and actions of their peers. This week they chose:

Betsy-Mae for being kind, brave and already making new friends in her first week atour school.
Irina for looking out for her peers, being helpful and showing kindness.

Some very apt choices in a week, where we learnt that the one of the contributing factors to happiness is social cohesion and belonging.

We have a full week coming up with lots of activities and events:
Monday: Canute trip to Nancarrow farm
Wednesday: Mother’s Day service at St Saviour’s at 2:30pm
Thursday: Tregeagle science and geography field trip Holywell Bay
Friday: Tregeagle concert at St Neot pm

Have a lovely weekend,
Jane Wills

Science

This term, we have been exploring the fascinating world of rocks and soils. We became rock and soil detectives, examining samples to discover their properties. We tested if rocks were hard or soft, if they floated or sank, and even tried to scratch them with a fingernail! For soils, we checked how much water they held and felt their texture. We now knw that rocks and soils play a crucial role in our environment plus, fossils found in sedimentary rocks teach us about life from millions of years ago! Some of our favourite activities included testing rocks and making fossils.

On Thursday 27th, we are going on a field trip to further investigate rocks and also the properties the sand to link with our Geography unit of work on deserts.
Next week:
Wednesday is swimming in the morning and Mother’s Day service at St Saviour’s at 2:30pm
Thursday: Science and Geography field trip
Friday: Concert at St Neot pm

Spring has sprung!

What a fantastic few weeks we have had in Canute.  The children have been working so hard on their learning.

World Book Day was a fantastic day as usual, with the children fully embracing the day.  We had a whole host of costumes on show and we enjoyed a day of fun.  As a part of the day Canute opened their class library!  The children decorated some beautiful bags to use to transport their books to and from school, made covers for their own reading logs and chose a first library book to take home.  The children can exchange their library books on any day of the week, we have a lovely selection and we are awaiting some more.  We finished our day with some buddy reading with Tregeagle who also taught us a poem and made us beautiful bookmarks.  We have also been lucky enough to have a visit from the Library Service who shared the wonderful story of 'Owl Babies' with us.

In English we have been looking at the structure of a non-chronological report and the children have begun to plan their own reports on spring animals.

There has been a lot of measuring in maths over the past weeks in Reception and Year 2 and the children have been comparing and measuring length using different units of measure including cubes, cm and m.  In Year 1 the children have been exploring the place value of numbers 20-50.

In our RE work we have been learning about why Easter is special to Christian people, exploring the stories behind the events of Holy week and sharing these in different forms including role play and art activities.

In PSHE the children have been thinking about what it means to be healthy in regards to diet, sleep, exercise and medicine.

We have been so lucky to have Miss Northcott working with us over the past 7 weeks and unfortunately this week will be her last and she will be back to university.  We wish her all the luck in the rest of her teaching journey.

Some things coming up...
Thursday 20th March - The Very Hungry Caterpillar day - come to school in bright clothes for a day of caterpillar fun!
Friday 21st March - Red Nose Day
Monday 24th March - Nancarrow Farm trip
Wednesday 26th March - PCSO Cocks visiting for a road safety morning.

Please continue to look on Seesaw for photos and learning that your child is taking part in.  If you have any questions then please get in touch.

EVENTFUL WEEK

ST PIRAN'S DAY
It has been a eventful week with lots of extracurricular activities taking place. We had a lovely St Piran’s Day service at St Saviour’s with Reverend Richard telling the story of St Piran, the children singing Cornish inspired songs (and Mamma Mia!) and playing ukulele. We finished off with Cornish saffron buns provided by Richard – yum!
WORLD BOOK DAY
For Thursday’s World Book Day, the school was filled with excited character from a range of children’s books. This always makes for a special day, and we celebrated by watching Michael Rosen perform poetry and sharing stories.
FOOTBALL
Friday, our Year 4-6 girls went to Bodmin to represent the school in the ARENA Girls’ Football Tournament. They played well, managed to win a match and made us proud with their resilience and energy.
SCHOOL COUNCIL
We now have stables full of hobby horses. As pat of the School Council’s work supplying new and different play equipment, the children have taken time this week to create their own personalised hobby horse/creature. There are some spectacular species, and these will bring a fun element to breaktimes.

Achievement Assembly
WRITER of the week
Indi for some super sentence work paying attention to detail with punctuation and letter formation.
Ailla for experimenting with new vocabulary and grammar to extend her sentences and elevate her writing.

STAR of the week
Leia for listening and following instructions with more care and attention
Robbie for showing bravery and trying new things with greater confidence

Spring

Week 2 of swimming and everyone is already making progress in terms of confidence and stroke technique. It is great to see independence growing and the pride and importance the children attach to making the most of their learning in the pool. It is particularly important for them to gain confidence around water as this supports their continued learning with watersports in summer term. Last year, we saw the children transfer their knowledge of water safety from the pool to the open water and I am certain this will be the same again this year.

On Friday, we had most of the class attending the Girls’ football tournament in Bodmin so the remainder of the class had the opportunity to start Science Week early and experiment with scientific processes. They made some fantastic colour patterns, made water travel and created an airshow with ping pong balls.

PE is swimming on Wednesday and OAA on Thursday.
We also have Tag Rugby at Looe on Wednesday afternoon.
Have a lovely weekend,
Mr Twaite and Mrs Wills

Celebrating Safer Internet Day

Safer Internet Day (SID) 2025 is an essential event for primary schools worldwide, aiming to educate children, teachers, and parents on responsible and safe internet use. With the digital world becoming an integral part of children's lives, it is more crucial than ever to equip them with the knowledge and skills to navigate the online space safely.

This year, we took part in Safer Internet Day on Tuesday with learning based around the theme ‘Too good to be true?

We are aware that primary school-aged children are increasingly exposed to digital platforms through educational apps, online games, and social media. While the internet offers vast opportunities for learning and entertainment, it also presents risks such as cyberbullying, exposure to inappropriate content, and privacy concerns. By taking part in Safer Internet Day the children have a chance to address these challenges and feel empowered with safe online practices.

To help support your child at home, we have included some suggestions in this week's newsletter.

Final Thoughts Safer Internet Day 2025 is an excellent opportunity for primary schools to instil lifelong digital safety habits in young learners. By working together—schools, parents, and communities—we can create a safer and more positive online experience for children. Hopefully this year’s Safer Internet Day has been a memorable and impactful one.

History
We have been exploring how the Census can shed light on life in local areas throughout the past. Census records offer a fascinating glimpse into how people lived, worked, and grew their communities over time. It has been immensely enjoyable to watch the children turn into historians, interrogate the historical sources and drawing conclusions from their inference. From our work, the children have identified how localities can be defined according to the jobs available, how women’s rights (or lack of) influenced the census and how information sharing has changed over time. One of the children shared their enjoyment of the learning, “I love working wit the Census, I have made one of my own at home”.

DT – Pop-Up Books
By combining creativity, storytelling, and engineering, the children have been developing practical skills while exploring the mechanics of paper engineering to make their own pop-p book based on a well-known nursery tale to share with Canute class. We have followed a structured approach to help the children grasp the process while maintaining engagement using the steps:
  • Introduction by sharing and showing examples pop-up books and discuss their mechanics; layers, levers, sliders.
  • Story Planning by creating a storyboard outlining text and visuals for each page.
  • Making the Pop-Up Elements and the background pages.
  • Evaluation and Reflection to encourage children to test their books and share them with peers and discuss what worked well and how designs could be improved.
Writing
We have completed our non-chronological reports based on an animal of the children’s choice. Following the editing process, the children have spent time creating and sourcing the diagrams and illustrations needed to enhance their final copy. There is some impressive high-quality writing which the children are looking forward to sharing on our return after the half term break.

Please remember that we are swimming after half term, the first lesson is on Wednesday 26th February. We will be leaving school at 8:50am promptly to make sure we take full advantage of the pool time. An extra snack and full water bottle is essential on these days.

Hope you have a relaxing half term break.

Children's Mental Health Week

This week, we have taken part in Children’s Mental Health Week. We have focussed on mindfulness and talked about how we can make ourselves feel calm. The sunshine has helped enormously with mood and a significant part of the responses from the children have been taling about how much they enjoy spending time outdoors.

On Tuesday afternoon, Canute class went to the beach to build sandcastles and Tregeagle class enjoyed their outdoor PE lesson for the first time in weeks without getting cold and wet. We were also joined by Reverend Allen who shared stories about the importance of feeling happy and content with the person you are. Children’s Mental Health Week is an important time to highlight the well-being of young minds, encouraging children to express themselves, build resilience, and develop positive coping strategies.

We had a fantastic end to the Mental Health Week with parents joining us on Friday afternoon. It was lovely to see so many families coming together to engage in mindfulness activities; a really powerful way to strengthen connections and promote calm, focus, and emotional awareness.

Achievement Assembly:

Mental Health Star of the Week:
Antonia for her relentless positivity and spreading joy and confidence among her peers.
Nya for always coming into school smiling and happy to join in with any activity.

Writer of the Week
Erin for working with focus, concentration and care to produce a great draft copy of her report.
Irina for really thinking about how to make her writing interesting and entertaining for the reader.

We have had another amazing week in Canute class this week.

All of the class have been making fantastic progress in their phonics lessons, showing determination and enthusiasm for their learning.

In English the Year 1's and 2's have been completely engrossed in their story writing for 'George and the dragon'.  We have had some gruesome sentences, super similes, perfect punctuation and lots of excited chatter.

In maths our reception children have been exploring mass and capacity.  They have been measuring, balancing and problem solving using a range of resources.  Year 1 have been continuing to focus on numbers to 20 and this week they have been comparing quantities, using number lines and reading numbers.  Year 2 have been completing their unit of work on money, finding change and solving problems with more than 1 step.

We are so lucky to have Mrs Butlin working with us and this week we were all having a go with the ukuleles, playing a rhythm and we also sang some great songs.

In history we have been finding out about castles.  We created a timeline to show how castles have changed over time, designed our own castles with as many defenses as possible and we have started to create some 3D models.

In our outdoor learning this week we were very busy getting our playground garden spring ready.  The children were weeding, planting and clearing.  We planted a pear and an apple tree and  discovered an old friend 'Tuna' in our pond. Our reception children have worked hard to make bird boxes to add to our rejuvenated garden.

We were all very happy to welcome Miss Northcott back to our class this week to complete her teaching placement.  She will be with us for the next 7 weeks.

Next week is Children's Mental Health Week and we look forward to seeing lots of you in school next Friday at 2pm.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend and the sun continues to shine.

How are we already at the end of our second week back!  The children have been getting stuck into their learning this week.

In Drawing Club our reception children have been sharing the story of 'The pea and the Princess'.  They have come up with some amazing ideas to try to convince the Princess that the bed is comfortable!  Year 1's and 2's have been starting to create their plot points based on the story of 'George and the Dragon'.  Their imaginations have been running wild and they have been using some fantastic adjectives, alliteration, onomatopoeia and similes in their sentences.

In maths reception have been continuing to focus on numbers 0-5 and have been introduced to the concepts of 1 more and 1 less.  Year 1 have been continuing their place value work, focusing on the teen numbers.  Year 2 have begun their unit of work all about money.  They have been recognising the denominations of the different coins and notes, adding and comparing quantities.  There has been a lot of problem solving and questioning going on this week.  We also had our first week of 99 club for the spring term and we could see great leaps of improvements in scores, the children are always so determined to beat their last score.

In art this week the children made some amazing dragon sculptures with Mirs Fernie, made from clay, thinking about the different joining techniques and modelling skills needed to make a successful sculpture.

We are very lucky to have Mrs Butlin back in working with us for music and we spent some time creating rhythms with the drums and new songs.

In our history work we watched the coronation of Queen Victoria and King Charles lll and discussed the differences and similarities.  We learnt about the four main parts of a coronation and then held our own. Our reception children looked at photos from when they were babies and discussed how they are different now and how we can use photos from the past to help us remember what things were like in the past.

We had a visit from 'Smarter smiles' this week, explaining the importance of good oral hygiene and the children all got sent home with a good bag.  This builds on the work we are doing in school with our supervised teeth brushing and opportunity for fluoride treatment.  Our next visit will be in the summer term.

Another busy week ahead next week and we can't wait to fill you in on all that we have done.

Happy New Year and welcome back to a brand new term!

The spring term is always so busy and full of exciting things.  The children have all come back to school eager and ready to learn.

This week in our English Year 1 and 2 have been introduced to the story of George and the Dragon and have worked extremely hard to create a story map to enable them to re-tell the story.

Math this week has seen our reception children start their unit of work 'Alive in 5', where they are embedding their knowledge of numbers 0-5.  The year 1's have started a new unit on place value, focusing on the numbers up to and including 20.  This builds upon the place value unit which they covered at the beginning of the year.  They are looking at the numerals, words and how the numbers can be represented in different ways.  Year 2's have been consolidating and completing their unit of work on shape, looking at the properties of both 2D and 3D shapes.

Our enquiry question this half term is 'Who can be royal?' and you with seen the medium term plan of activities on seesaw.  We started our history unit of work this week exploring the question 'What is a monarch?'.  We discussed who our monarch is today and the roles and responsibilities they have.

We can't wait to continue exploring these questions over the next few weeks.

As always, if you have any concerns or questions please don't hesitate to contact one of us.

Happy New Year!

It's been so lovely to welcome back our children and families at the start of 2025. There is much excitement around the school in our history lessons. Tregeagle children are unpicking what a census is and why we have one (we've also completed our own school census this week). In Canute, the children are learning about various Kings and Queens (monarchs). We look forward to updating you soon with some samples of our learning.

Merry Christmas

We are at the end of a long Autumn term and have spent some wel deserved time feeling festive with Christmas Challenge Cup and our final Christmas community engagements

On Tuesday, we found the time for a Geography field trip to compare land use in local woodland wit that of the Amazon rainforest. The children made use of their iPads to collect evidence and back in the classroom, we analysed their findings to draw conclusions for their comparisons.

We hope you have a lovely Christmas break.

What a fantastic couple of weeks we've had here at Polruan School! The end of term has been filled with excitement, creativity, and festive cheer.
We kicked things off with our amazing Nativity performance. The children worked so hard, and it truly showed as they brought the story of Christmas to life with enthusiasm and joy. We couldn’t be more proud of their dedication and energy—it was a performance to remember!
In addition to our Nativity, we had a fun trip to the Cinema to see Paddington 3. The children thoroughly enjoyed the movie, and it was a great way to relax and bond before the holidays. There were lots of smiles, laughs, and conversations about Paddington’s latest adventures!
One of the highlights of the season has been our lovely singing around the Christmas tree. The children’s voices filled the air with festive spirit, and we also enjoyed a heartwarming service today, marking a special end to the term. It’s always wonderful to come together as a school community, reflecting on the year gone by and celebrating the joy of the season.

Our poetry unit came to a beautiful close as the children finished writing their lovely festive poems. Their creativity and skill have really shone through in their writing, and we’ve been so impressed with their work. What great poets we have at Polruan!

In Art, we wrapped up our work thinking carefully about the word "composition" as we created our final pieces. The children have been so thoughtful in their approach to art, focusing on how to balance colors, shapes, and textures to create something special.

Our Geography unit also came to an end with a fascinating comparison between life in Shanghai and our own town of Polruan. The children have learned so much about different cultures and environments, and it was a great way to wrap up our studies for the term.

As we head into the holiday season, we want to take a moment to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
We look forward to seeing everyone back on Tuesday, January 7th for another exciting term ahead!
With best wishes
Mrs. Fernie, Mrs. Andrew, Mrs. Hicks, and Miss Talbot

Friday 6th December

This week has been another busy and exciting one at school as the children continue to work hard and have lots of fun in their lessons! Here’s a little look at what we’ve been up to:

Nativity Play Preparations.
Our young performers have been busy practicing songs and learning their lines for the upcoming Nativity Play next week. The excitement is building, and we can't wait to see all their hard work come together on stage. It's always such a magical experience, and we're sure this year’s performance will be extra special!

Maths
In Maths, we’ve just wrapped up our units on addition and subtraction. The children have really grasped these concepts and are ready to tackle our next challenge: shapes! We’re looking forward to exploring the world of geometry in the coming weeks, and the children are eager to see how shapes fit into the world around them.

English
In English, the children have been working tirelessly on their Christmas stories, inspired by the book Binny’s Diwali. They’ve been so creative, and we can’t wait to read the finished pieces! Next up, we’ll be focusing on writing Christmas poems, so get ready for some festive wordplay and holiday cheer!

Art
In Art, we’ve been experimenting with different mediums to create beautiful drawings. The children have really enjoyed exploring new techniques, and we look forward to seeing their completed Christmas compositions soon. The festive season has truly inspired some fantastic artwork!

A huge thank you to all the parents for their continued support. Have a wonderful weekend, and we look forward to another busy week ahead! Warm wishes,

Mrs Fernie, Mrs Andrews, Mrs Hicks, and Miss Talbot

Christmas Performances

Christmas Play performance is the best day of the school calendar and this year was no exception. It marks the culmination of weeks of practice, prop making, singing and confidence boosting. It is always a joy to watch the children’s enthusiasm and confidence grow over the weeks as they find themselves taking on the roles assigned and beginning to imagine how best to bring them to life. For some children, this is their favorite part of the year, a time to shine by fully embracing the opportunity showcase a different side to their personality and skill set.

Being a small school inevitably means all hands on deck as cast sizes for the plays are generally much larger than the children we have in our classes so everyone has an important role to play and often means children playing several parts or several parts being amalgamated into one large role. Through the study of the script and analysing the personalities of the different characters using reading skills, the children develop a good understanding of their part. This is further enhanced by their involvement in creating costumes, props and the staging.

As always, the performance was well attended, and the children shone. We are all incredibly proud of their performance and hope you enjoyed the shows as we did. Thank you for all the lovely messages complimenting the children on their performances.

Following on from the successful singing at the Community Christmas Lunch on Tuesday, we are two down, two to go for our community Christmas performances. We hope you can join us singing around the tree on Tuesday afternoon at 2pm on the Wharf and again for our Christmas service at Saint Saviours on Thursday morning at 9am.

Reminder that Tregeagle class has a Geography field trip Tuesday morning, our whole school trip to watch Paddington is on Wednesday and class parties on Thursday/Friday. As always, we finish the term early so pick up is at 1:30pm on Friday.
